The transition from middle school to high school is a difficult one, and with that comes the leadership group known as Link Crew. This organization helps foster relationships between the incoming freshmen and upperclassmen—the Link leaders. The freshmen are linked up with their upperclassmen on orientation day, with the goal that both the Link leader and freshmen stay connected throughout the year.
This past Thursday, the night after finals, Oregon City freshmen and Link Crew leaders gathered for the annual “Freshmen Frenzy.” The event is hosted by Link Crew with the goal of celebrating the progress made by the freshmen class this year.
The night’s festivities included everything from shooting hoops or playing volleyball in the gym, to racing through inflatable obstacle courses and cooling off with some fresh Little Caesars pizza. If students felt the need to relax, they could simply lie on a couch and play video games while jamming out to music.
Both Link Crew leaders and staff couldn’t help but notice something different about this year, senior Jordan Paul, also a Link ambassador, said, “There definitely was a lot more freshmen here this year than in years past. I think it made a lot of them be more involved in all the activities we had.”
Though Freshmen Frenzy is a onetime celebration for freshmen and Link Crew, there are many planned events that stretch throughout the year for freshmen to connect with the leaders that guided them through the halls on their very first day of high school.
