Where there’s a will there’s a way ...
Under Coach Brandon Lee the cross country team has made steady improvement. The OCHS cross country team has been busy running miles and rebuilding their infrastructure. OCHS athletes are logging more miles than ever and setting many PRs every meet. Recently the OCHS team finished an overall combined third place, with the boys finishing second and the girls finishing fifth, at the Hermiston Cross Country Invitational on September 8th. This is a tough course and the weather is always hot.
Last year the cross country team worked hard to raise funding to purchase a large race clock. The team held car washes, assisted at local fundraising events, helped out at the Portland Marathon, sold “stuff” and asked local businesses and civic organizations for donations. Additionally, the OCHS student government made a generous donation that made acquiring the clock possible. The clock has been a real asset to the team and is used for all meets and for key practices throughout the year. The school’s track team also uses the race clock for their meets.
This year the cross country has continued to work hard and raise money for additional purchases. The team has purchased eight large course flags so spectators and athletes know key distances along the course. Rocky Smith, OCHS teacher, donated his time, over the summer, to design the team flags so the team could have them prior to the start of school. The flags will benefit the cross country team for years to come.
Additionally, the team has begun to replace their old racing uniforms. This is another big and ongoing fundraising project. All of these purchases are made possible through the hard work of the athletes and boosters and through the generous donations of time and money from many people and organizations. We’re really fortunate to have an educator so dedicated to the students/school.
The team’s goal is to be the best it can be!
