Do you think Oregon City vs West Linn have the biggest rivalry in the Nation ?
We know it is one of the oldest, now let's tell them we have the BIGGEST rivalry !
USA TODAY High School Sports has crowned its state winners in the best high school football rivalry competition and now those 51 rivalries are headed to the regional round.
Three rivalries had been chosen for each state (and Washington D.C.), with fans voting in the state round for the past two weeks. The state voting closed on Monday morning and the regional round will open at 11 a.m. EST Wednesday, Dec. 5.
The regional round ends Dec. 12, with the four winners advancing to the national competition, which will conclude with the crowning of the nation’s top high school football rivalry at 11 a.m. EST on Dec. 19. The two teams to comprise America's best high school football rivalry will earn $10,000 ($5,000 to each school) in athletic department funding, as well as national coverage of the game by USA TODAY and a specially-designed trophy to be held by the rivalry's winner each year going forward.
Yes, we realize these rivals have spent decades and in some cases more than a century butting heads. But just this once, we’re asking these bitter rivals to play together on one team for one common goal. And then they can go back to despising one another.
