Eats and Beats: February 9 2010

Feb 9 2010

Today during both lunches, OCHS was entertained by Chata Addy and His Dance Band – Susuma - for this year’s Diversity Month. The band varied their performance with original songs, traditional, contemporary, and world beat sounds. Chata spiced up the music by singing in English and his native language Ga. The band not only brought diversity to the school, but inspired students and staff to become involved in the performance with singing, dancing and drumming. OCHS would like to thank Chata Addy and His Dance Band Susuma for their performance.

DECA Helps Out Community - H1N1 Not in Our Neighborhood

Jan 21 2010

Oregon City High School DECA students, Katie LaRue, Alexis Damm, and Theodore Vixay are working hard on a project called “H1N1- Not in our Neighborhood”.  DECA is an association of marketing students, and these students chose getting information out about H1N1 as their Public Relations Project this year.  They are informing the school district and community about preventing the H1N1 virus.

The team has created three main points.  They are:

  • Wash your hands for 20 seconds after going to the restroom, before eating or handling food, and after sneezing or coughing
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes into your elbow or fabric to keep them from spreading to others
  • Stay home when you are sick to maximize recovery speed and minimize your exposure to others

Some activities the DECA team has participated in include visiting Mt. Pleasant to present at an assembly, hanging posters in bathrooms at many elementary schools and the high school, visiting the farmers market and handing out brochures, creating video announcements for OCHS students, as well as other activities.
